Newcastle UX Book Club – November 2011
The next UX Book Club will be held in a cosy corner of The Town Wall pub in Newcastle on Tuesday 22nd November. The nominated book for this session will be Seductive Interaction Design by Stephen P Anderson. We’ll also get to play with his Mental Notes cards!

We’ve arranged for a buffet and warm fire! Please sign up using the eventbrite page so we can confirm numbers for the buffet.
This event is sponsored by DigitalCity, and we would be grateful if you could complete an output form if possible, helping us to hold other UXNE events in the near future. Watch this space for a call for presentations!
Newcastle UX Book Club – September 2011
After an enjoyable first uxbookclub we’re excited for the second. As suggested by attendee Vicky Teinaki we will be reading a discussing Back of the Napkin by Dan Roam. We’ll learn how to solve problems quickly using sketches and how we can apply it in our work with clients and team members.
We’ll be holding it in the great new tech location at The Post Office NE1on Pink Lane close to central station. We’ll grab some refreshments again and look forward to everyone’s input! We’ll also go for drinks afterwards in the Town Wall.
As always if you have any other suggestions or feedback, please @uxnortheast or email info@uxne.org.uk.

UX Designers get Together for UXNE in Newcastle
byrichardpowell has posted a great review of the @uxbookclub from last night. Thanks to everyone who came and made it a great discussion, look forward to more in future!
Last night was the first UX Northeast Event. Held in the library in Newcastle the UXNE Book club was a gathering of like minded people interested in User Experience, Interface Design, Interaction Design and a lot else.
The discussion, centered around the book “Undercover User Experience Design”, covered some really interesting topics and the atmosphere was welcoming and collaborative. But what I’ll take away the most is that UXNE banner is for the community so that fellow UX designers can collaborate, learn and organise UX Events.

EVENT – UX Bookclub
We’re looking forward to holding the first @uxbookclub event in the North East. It’s happening the same week as the awesome DIBI Conference and held at Newcastle City Library on 6th June 2011 from 17:30.
We’ll be discussing Undercover User Experience Design from Cennydd Bowles and James Box. Its a very easy going read and great for newcomers and UX teams of one. There is no requirement to read the book, but it would be great if you could!
If you’d like to suggest a different book or have any other suggestions or feedback, please @uxnortheastor email info@uxne.org.uk.

There’s a movement afoot in the business schools at Stanford and Harvard to define the science of startups: a repeatable method that will reliably deliver the product successes and “outsized returns” that investors need. Called the Lean Startup, this methodology bears a striking resemblance to good User Experience practice. When the science of startups includes User Centered Design as one of its tent-poles, then we designers have a new opportunity to do great things. This session will introduce you to the key concepts of Lean Startup, explain how it resolves the most intractable problems endemic to the UX community, and challenge you to imagine its affect on your work and your teams.
